/Now that I have captured your attention
I want to steal you for a rhythm intervention
Mr. T say I’m ready for inspection
Show me how you make a first impression/

Lex looked up from his desk as the bell above the door jingled, a smile crossing his lips when he saw that Dave was the person entering the garage's main office. "'Sup?" the brunette man asked as the Irishman rose from his chair to greet his friend.

"Well," Lex said, drawing the word out for several beats, "Ye kna Emma, right?"

Dave nodded. "Nice girl. Though she's dating your mate Stanford, isn't she?"

"Aye."

Dave winked at Lex. "This isn't about Emma, is it."

"Well..."

"Lex, my friend, you're making me a little nervous. What's on your mind?"

"Emma's friend, Alex..... she.... well...."

/Oh, oh
Can we take it nice and slow, slow
Break it down and drop it low, low
Cause I just wanna party all night in the neon lights ’til you can’t let me go/

That was how the conversation proceeded until Emma dragged Lex out of the office, slammed the door behind her, and spilled everything to Dave. Dave, in turn, took the news rather well - that Alex had a crush on him, and would he be interested in taking her out on a date? He had agreed, and both he and Emma went goggle-eyed when, upon the opening of the door to the garage, Lex, Spinner, and Stanford had spilled onto the office floor, the trio having been listening at the keyhole.

"So... that's it?" Stanford asked in surprise, "I figured it would be far more difficult to play match maker."

Emma went pink and looked at her feet, leading her boyfriend and two of her best friends to look at her. "You... you haven't told Alex yet, have you?" Spinner inquired, to which Emma shook her head for a negative response.

"Lass," Lex sighed.

"You got the most difficult part out of the way first," Stanford decided, "we just need to inform Alex that Dave will be picking her up for an evening of dinner and dancing and romantic fun."

Spinner face-palmed and Lex rolled his eyes. "What?" the Brit demanded of his friends.

"Have ye ever tried ta plan a date fer someone else?" Lex inquired.

"It's about as easy as making a pecan pie," Spinner added with a sigh. "And trust me, things will get soupy before they go smoothly."

Emma sighed again before squaring her shoulders. "I'll go and tell her right now," she said before promptly walking into the door casing.

/I just wanna feel your body right next to mine
All night long
Baby, slow down the song
And when it’s coming closer to the end hit rewind
All night long
Baby, slow down the song/

Three evenings later a black '86 Thunderbird pulled to a stop in front of the Spectramotors office, Dave sliding out of the driver's seat. Pushing his sunglasses up on the top of his head, he approached the building, which, despite it being after hours, still had lights blazing. Ringing the bell, he was admitted into the office by Stanford, who, dressed in a smart suit and vest ensamble, looked remarkably like a father meeting his daughter's date.

"You look marvelous," Dave breathed as Alex entered, the skirt on her new emerald green dress swishing as she walked.

Alex went pink as she took in the dark slacks, black shirt, red tie, and dark vest her date wore. "You look nice too," she managed to say, the color in her cheeks increasing.

"You will have her home at a reasonable hour," Stanford instructed, "no dirty dancing. No twerking. No lambada."

Dave chuckled as Alex and Emma blushed. "Yes sir," Dave replied as he shook Stanford's hand. Holding his arm out to Alex, he asked, "Shall we be on our way?"

"Of course," Alex replied, linking arms with her date.

As soon as the office door closed Stanford pressed his fingertip to the earwig earpiece he wore. "This is Reverb calling Guardian. How do you copy, over?"

"Reading ye five by five Stanny," Lex's voice replied in his ear, the roar of the Guardian's engine threatening to drown him out, "Tezz and I are tailing them just out o' sight, over."

"Keep us updated. Over and out."

"Should we have really asked Lex and Tezz to tail them?" Emma asked as she rested her head against Stanford's shoulder.

Stanford shrugged in reply. "The tail was just a cover for giving our resident married couple a proper date night," he chuckled. "Who knows, maybe both parties will have plenty of fun tonight."

/If you want me I’m accepting applications
So long as we keep this record on rotation
You know I'm good with mouth to mouth resuscitation
Breathe me in, breathe me out
So amazing/

"This place is huge," Alex remarked as they entered the club that the Spectramotors crew frequented. Being a new addition to their circle of friends, she hadn't had much of a chance to be social, so everything about that evening had been a new experience for her.

"I hear they have every type of drink imaginable at their bar," Dave practically had to shout in her ear in order to be heard above the roar of the crowd and the pounding dance music that threatened to blow them away from the second they entered the building. "What can I get you?"

Alex leaned against Dave's shoulder while she read the names of the various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages that the bar specialized in. She recalled some of the names from various books she'd read, as well as from hear-say from Emma and the rest of the people at Spectramotors. She also recalled some of the stories of the insanity that tended to follow heavy drinking and various members of their group. "I'll have a cranberry and tonic on the rocks," she told DJ, the bartender of the evening.

"Make it a double," Dave said, also recalling stories that he'd heard as well as the infamous bachelor party incident in Ireland.

Once they had drinks in hand they made their way toward the tables, both stopping as the tempo of the music shifted. "This is totally..." Dave started to say.

"Lex's jam," Alex finished with a giggle while her date chuckled.

Finishing his drink, Dave set his glass on an empty table before saying, "Would milady care to dance?"

Alex tossed back the last of her beverage and set her glass down before smiling. A light hiccup escaped her lips before she replied, "Why not.... I mean, yes please."

/Oh, oh
Can we take it nice and slow, slow
Break it down and drop it low, low
Cause I just wanna party all night in the neon lights ’til you can’t let me go/

Finding a step that they were both comfortable with was somewhat difficult, as Dave was into the hip-hop style of dance, while Alex was a bit more traditional. Settling upon the usual couples dance of his hands on her waist and her hands on his shoulders, they started to slip into the groove. As the song progressed they became a little more daring, Dave shuffling his feet while dropping low. Alex, in turn, shimmied a bit to match her date's decrease in height.

Rising back to their full heights, Dave spun Alex around a couple of times before dipping her. When she snapped back up to her full height she hiccupped twice before accepting a rose that someone was holding out to them. Holding the rose in her teeth, they began to tango to a techno song, the other people on the dance floor giving them plenty of room as tango mixed into swing dancing.

"You dance divinely," Dave remarked before snatching the rose out of Alex's teeth with his own.

"You're not so bad yourself, twinkle toes," Alex retorted, "though when did the music start to speed up again?"

"About two songs ago," DJ said as he handed each of them a bottle of water. "If I didn't know better I'd say that you two know the Spectramotors crew."

Dave chuckled and Alex blushed in response. "Right on the mark," DJ said, winking at the couple before returning to the bar.

The evening seemed to fly by, and before they knew it Dave's phone alarm was signalling that it was time for him to bring her home. "But Stanford was just kidding about a curfew," Alex protested through a yawn.

"I've got to get up early tomorrow myself," Dave replied through his own yawn. "I just hope you enjoyed yourself tonight."

Alex nodded. "Totally," she beamed. "I'm realtively new to the area, so the more friends I make, the better. How about you?"

"It's a long story," he stated as he slid into the driver's seat. Looking over at his date, who was in the middle of another yawn, he asked, "You want to hear it?"

"Sure," she replied as he turned the key, the car roaring to life for the drive back to the Spectramotors garage.

/Breathe me in, breathe me out
The music’s got me going
Breathe me in, breathe me out
No stop until the morning
Breathe me in, breathe me out
You know I’m ready for it
For it, for it
Yeah/

Two minutes to eleven the T-bird pulled to a stop in front of the garage. The engine was shut off, and the lights turned off, yet the doors did not open for the longest time. Once they opened, though, the pair who emerged didn't seem to want to part and have their first date come to an end.

Walking her to the office entrance, Dave wrapped his arm around Alex's shoulders, pulling her into a side hug. "Did you have fun tonight?" he asked as she snuggled into his shoulder.

"Totally," Alex replied. "Emma and everyone were right to set us up together."

"Would it... would it be ok if we saw each other again? Like, soon-ish?"

Alex turned her head to look up into Dave's eyes. "I'd like that," she said, standing on her toes to kiss him on the cheek.

Dave went pink, and Alex giggled. Both jumped as the office lights came on, a familiar figure standing in the window tapping his watch. "Looks like 'dad' is trying to tell me that I'm late for curfew," Alex said. She kissed Dave on the cheek again before hopping up the steps to the office. "I'll talk to you later," she said as she stepped into the office.

"Right," Dave called to the closed door. Thrusting his hands into his pockets, he quirked an eyebrow as the phone in his pocket began to vibrate. Pulling the unit from his pocket, he smiled when he saw Alex's number on the screen. "Is it later enough?" she asked as he answered her call.

He chuckled as he turned toward the office, where he saw her standing in the window, her phone to her ear. "It works for me," he replied as he resumed his walk to his car. "What do you want to talk about?"

"Tezzy?"

"Dah, mon lapushka?"

"I think we're lost."

"That is not possible. We have the GPS tracker. We cannot get lost."

"Tezzy, what is th' GPS telling ye?"

Phosphorescent green and blue light filled the Guardian's cabin as Tezz checked the device. "It is telling us that we... are... someplace where there is no signal."

Lex rolled his eyes as the GPS' screen went back into sleep mode. "I'm thinking we should wait until morning ta see where we are."

"I concur."

Something that's been a WIP for the last few months. :iconsweetstar17: wanted to set her OC, Alex, up with someone in the BF5 group. Enter Dave, who first appeared in my 'Spring Break' series, and again for my 'TGIF (Last Friday Night)' song fic / bachelor party story. I need to write a proper bio for him at some point and also give him a surname (as of this moment he and Ross are lastnameless ones)

I own Lex and Dave
Alex and Emma belong to :iconsweetstar17:
DJ is technically the club's DJ, but tonight he was working bar. He belongs to :iconfairy-jewel:
